Politik, sol, stränder, grottor, reggae, brasilienska kvinnliga VM-fotbollsspelare, rosor, gamla romantiska kvarter...

Politics of Nuclear Waste - experiences from Europe

Where?: onboard transport ship for radioactive waste, M/s Sigyn.

The program will be as follows:

Brief presentation by the chairman of each speaker and the nuclear power situation in the country (how many reactors, plans to build new ones/face out, etc) - 2 minutes  .

A short presentation given by each speaker to set the scene (5 - 8 minutes) concerning waste management in Europe:

- C. Thegerström : Current situation in  Sweden. Plans, future challenges?
- F. M. Gonnot: Current situation in France. Plans, future challenges?
- J. Werren: Current situation in Germany. How to continue with AkEnd? Restart? Future challenges?
- J. Andersson: Current situation in Finland, comments on the process so far. Future challenges?
- B. Gustafsson: Current situation in former Soviet Union. What has been done, what needs to be done? Future challenges? Russia's need  for successful examples.

Each lecture will be followed by a few minutes of questions from the audience or by the chairman.

The last 30 - 40 minutes of the seminar, we would like to see you in a panel discussion  dealing with questions like:

- Waste is a national question needing a local solution: How to get knowledge and engagement on different political levels?

- There is a technical experience exchange concerning R & D: could the political experience exchange increase?

- Is it important with good examples (politically and for public trust)? Or is it a risk to lead the way?

- Is it likely that some countries will take care of others waste (deliberate or compulsory)?

Ps. I år ordnades det för första gången Suomi-Areena i Björneborg; tydligen ska Suomi-Arena bli Finlands egen Almedalsvecka...
